Love and Thanks: Letter of Resignation

Well, we were finally able to come out with the news in the last couple of weeks – and this is the letter I sent to my church community…so tough to write at so many levels, but I’m thankful for the time we’ve had together, and how much they have shaped who I am today…and now they know and can pray with and for us in this transition in our journey!

Dear Friends,

The scripture teaches us that there is a time and place for every season under the sun. In other words, life is a series of changes and transitions. This letter is to share news of a transition in my family that will affect College Hill Presbyterian Church.

On Sunday, January 30, 2011, my husband Andy accepted the call of the First Presbyterian Church, in Bloomington, Indiana to become their new Senior Pastor. Because of our Presbyterian call system, I was not free to share any of this with you, until it was official. But, the plan is to relocate our family to Bloomington sometime late April.

In the coming months, I will be working with Rev. RC and the Session to call a congregational meeting to accept my resignation from the position of Associate Pastor. I hope to be able to share more details with you as well as work with the youth and children’s ministry committees in planning for a smooth transition.

Over four years ago, I began a new job as your associate pastor. I could not have asked for a more loving group of people. You have sustained me in amazing ways. You have taught me how to be a pastor, and how to care for a congregation. You have helped me discover a deeper passion for youth, children and families’ ministry. You have inspired me with your adventurous spirit and compassionate hearts. We have laughed and cried together, hoped and prayed together, and sought to be faithful as much as possible. Please know this has been an incredibly difficult decision for both me and Andy. We are leaving behind more than a job but a community that has impacted us in countless ways. I can’t imagine our twins will ever experience a grace more wonderful than what they have received so far from you all. I will always share with them fond memories and stories of your generosity and support. Truly, God’s love shines so brightly through you.

I do believe that just as God called me to you, God is now calling Andy to a new ministry, my family to a new challenge…and me to a new, different role. I hope that you will pray for us and for the leadership of College Hill as together we all enter a new season of life.
