I had the honor of contributing an essay – “Nearer My God to Thee” – to the first edition of a book project called The Practice of Love: Real Stories of Living into the Kingdom of God, which you can find on Amazon. It is edited by Jonathan Brink at Civitas Press, a cool, little “boutique publishing company,” that has a great philosophy and concept about publishing in this overly-saturated, dog-eat-dog market. Anyway, it was a wonderful way to reflect on my faith journey, and a chance to look intentionally at how I experienced the discipline of love in my life, specifically embracing God’s shaping and molding process in me. God’s ever-nearness led me to understand a deeper love.
But, what is even more satisfying was being a part of a community of writers. There are a number of amazing stories that share about the love of God, love of self, love for neighbor, and love for enemy. All are incredibly inspiring, and generate some provocative dialogue.
