Gone Are the Days…A New Way to Vacation

Inspired in part by an article from Motherlode, the NY times blog on parenting – an email from a father with regrets.

The days of vacationing the way we want and expect are gone…

Gone are the days of checking out local bars to try local brews.
Gone are the days of spontaneously going out at 7 or 8 pm to watch the game on a big-screen with a huge basket of wings and a frosty mug of cheap beer at a restaurant.
Gone are the days of the only negative of a trip into a big city is dealing with traffic.
Gone are the days of hanging out in a big city with no set plans except to walk and take it all in.
Gone are the days of drinking a bottle of wine…by myself (I know there’s an alcohol theme here – don’t be alarmed).
Gone are the days of waking up early and going back to sleep to wake up much, much later.
Gone are the days of hanging out at a coffee place or Barnes and Noble all day long.
Gone are the days of going on runs at anytime of day.
Gone are the days of eating whenever and wherever.
Gone are the days of shopping for absolutely unnecessary items like key chains and postcards.
Gone are the days of totally relaxing.

But…we do get these kind of moments. And I wouldn’t trade them for the world.
