One thing Andy likes to say when we’re on a walk, and I happen to trip, which is often: “Don’t worry folks, it’s her first day walking.” It’s a silly joke, and one that still makes me laugh, but actually, I think there is some truth to it in my life. My head is always in the clouds, and I’m absolutely a clutz. If I look up for a moment, I stumble over even the flat surface of the sidewalk. But, the falling forward feels pretty natural. It’s me. And, I’m learning to finally embrace it for the grace-full story that comes out of the falling flat on my face at so many levels.

This is a space where I engage what keeps me clumsily placing one foot in front of the other: faith and theology, clergy identity and process, ministry, family and marriage, parenting, race, as well as some creative writing. In general, it’s all that keeps me connected and engaged, but also alive. I have to write for life, but I would say even for day-to-day survival.
